While photographing this little one last Summer, I was privileged to witness the many and ever changing moods of the first birthday!  Paula Spencer, author of Parenting Guide to Your Toddler, described these mood swings in Parenting Magazine as "Jekyl and Hyde like".  Spencer goes on to describe the temperment of a toddler and has some good advice for handling the ups and downs, click here if you would like to read it!

This cutie-pie didn't have such scary mood swings!  Although she was bursting with personality and expression, there was nothing but happiness during our portrait session.  I loved the way she proudly walked the boardwalk at a Fort Collins nature area, eager to show off her newly acquired skills.  As she bounded toward me, I couldn't help but cheer for her as she performed this amazing feat!

As she played near the wild sunflowers, one happy, animated expression after another lit up her precious face!  The action is all at high speed when you are one and she quickly went from playful to sweet to silly and to happy in just minutes.  Following all of this activity is the inevitable slow down as little ones get sleepy - it is a lot of work to be so busy!  (This is why 1 Year Sessions are usually just one hour.)

I actually love the quieter photos as much as I love the happy, silly ones.  A sweet kiss for Mom and softer portraits also show the real side of being one.

Pretty little baby Olive is on the Baby Plan making it easy to photograph the major milestones during her first year of life.  Since Olive's Six Month Session - where I get to capture her sitting up all by herself! - fell in the frigid month of February, I planned an indoor session using window light.  So Olive and her Mommy came over and I photographed her in the cozy warmth of my living room.  Olive began her session dressed to kill in a darling jumper handmade by the amazing Candace Shurley (check out her shop at Red Valentine) and sitting on a blanket handmade by Grandma.

Little Olive changed into a Spring sweater and we headed into my studio office where she quickly discovered her toes.  Then she realized that she was on camera and turned on her million dollar smile and even showed off her little tongue.

As I clicked away, I was mesmerized by those beautiful baby blue eyes and could have continued shooting all day.  But after awhile, I think Olive got hungry.  So, she decided to nibble on those bright colored buttons...

Clearly, I have the best job ever!  If you or someone you know is expecting, contact me for information on my Baby Plan.  Because you don't want to miss one moment of that precious first year!

Early one morning in May, I met Sara and Isaac at a natural area in Fort Collins to capture their Maternity Photos.  Sara is such a beautiful Mommy-to-be and the morning sunlight intensified her pregnancy glow!  I had selected this location because of the way light filters so beautifully through the trees but when Isaac informed me that they are Russian Olive trees, this location became so much more special.  You see, Sara and Isaac have named their baby girl Olive!  So taking Maternity Portraits among the Russian Olive trees seemed like the perfect place to begin documenting little baby Olive's life.

It warmed my heart every time Isaac smiled at Sara.  Such a great love between these two!

From the natural area, we headed to Olive Street to photograph this expectant couple on the street that shares the name of their baby girl.  Then, we headed to Old Town!

I was having so much fun hanging out with this happy couple!  I really don't think Isaac ever stops smiling!

Our last stop was a loft with beautiful natural light.  Sara looks like a cover model lit by the Northern light flowing through these windows.  Soon, baby Olive will arrive and I cannot wait to capture the next part of her story!

If you are expecting a baby or your family is changing, call me and let's talk about capturing this moment and creating something special for your home.  My goal is to help you celebrate your family with beautiful art that reflects the love and beauty of your family.
