This year we did something new with the Senior Model team.  Four of the 2016 Senior Models participated in a fashion couture event very unlike a regular senior photo session.   This photo shoot was separate from their Senior Portrait Session and the intent was not to create a yearbook photo!  This session was a fun, out of the box, fashion editorial shoot to create images that highlight the talent of our model team, make up artist, hair stylist and fashion design intern.  Our theme for this shoot was STRONG|CONFIDENT|BEAUTIFUL and everything from apparel to make up to hair to location was planned to communicate these qualities in our amazing high school senior models.

We began planning this photo shoot last winter.  The goal was to stretch our creative abilities and create a unique image for each model that captured their personal strength, confidence and beauty.  It all came together beautifully thanks to the incredible talents of our creative team and the maturity and eagerness of our the models that chose to participate.  Here are the details of our Fashion Couture Shoot:

EVENT

Of course, we had to share these lovely images so we held a Gallery Event on October 28 at FASTFRAME's new location in the Front Range Village Shopping Center.  The images looked amazing printed on Fine Art paper!  Besides, munching on cookies donated by Mary's Mountain Cookies and sipping sparkling beverages, those who attended donated to the family of Blake Miller to help cover the costs of her medical treatment.  Blake was diagnosed with stage 3, high risk neuroblastoma at the age of 17 months.  We are thrilled to tell you that we raised over $500 to help Blake's family with expenses. Blake has successfully recovered from surgery and her prognosis is good!!  If you would like to help the Miller family with continued expenses as they work with Memorial Sloan Kettering in New York to monitor Blake's health, you can do that by clicking here.

Now, I am guessing that you would like to see these images!  Here they are:

We are so excited to present our very first Fashion Couture Event Wednesday, October 28 from 7 - 9 p.m. at the new location for FASTFRAME next to Doug's Diner in the Front Range Village Shopping Center in Fort Collins!  You are probably wondering what on earth I am talking about...what is a Fashion Couture Event??

The Fashion Couture Event is a gallery art display created with Northern Colorado's top artists in fashion, make up and hair styling and four incredible high school students.  Here are three reasons why you want to be there!

1.  To support these amazing high school students!  These brave students are not professional models but they are members of the 2016 CSP Senior Model team.  They arrived early in the studio - probably the hardest part for a teenager! - and let MAC make up artist Sara Dozier transform them with her gifts of color, contouring and blending.  Then, Aveda hair stylist Ali Sherman, of Trios Aveda Salon and Spa, creatively styled each models locks with curls, braids and some aluminum foil (it was crazy!).  Everything came together when each model slipped into the apparel and accessories styled or created by Colorado State University Fashion Design student Kristi Davis.  By this point, it was apparent that this was no ordinary photo shoot! Totally, out of the box thinking inspired each model's look.  Unlike a Senior Portrait Session where the Senior is the highlight, this was an editorial fashion shoot to communicate what we see in young people in our community.  This generation is going to rock the world and we wanted to show their strength, confidence and beauty.  Photographing the models lasted until close to sunset on a scorching hot day in August and yet, these four teens were patient and positive, bringing the perfect energy to the photo shoot!

So, come and show some love for our models:  Michaela Kriewall and Holly Mack from Rocky Mountain High School and Jesse Goldstone and Hunter Davis from Fossil Ridge High School!

2.  Come on out to support Blake Miller!  Instead of ticket sales, we are collecting donations for a sweet little girl who was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma this Summer at the age of 17 months.  She has bravely endured chemotherapy and surgery and appears to be on her way to a successful recovery!  Her Mom told me that she doesn't even cry when she has her blood drawn - what a strong little girl!  However, if you have battled cancer or know someone who has, you know that the scans and blood tests continue and the medical bills fill the mailbox.  Many of you know that I had my own battle with cancer two years ago.  Throughout my treatment, I remember thinking how much worse it would be to watch my child deal with the painful side effects.  The out of pocket expenses for Blake's treatment will be high.  Helping to offset the family's financial worry allows them to focus on the needs of their little girl.  So, please come by the Fashion Couture Event and consider a donation to offset the medical costs of Blake's treatment.  One hundred percent of donations collected for the Fashion Couture Event will be donated to the Miller Family.   If it is easier to donate online, click here to go to Blake's YouCaring page.

3.  While you are meeting little Blake and enjoying the artwork, munch on cookies from Mary's Mountain Cookies!  Yes, we will have these scrumptious cookies for all of our guests.  If you have ever had one of their cookies, you know this is where you want to head for dessert on Wednesday night!

Here is a Sneak Peek of what you will see and the details again, just in case:

I hope to see you Wednesday!

Joyfully,

Cindy

Summer is in full swing and it is hot!  And nothing keeps you cool and fresh like wearing white!  But those head-to-toe white looks featured on the runway can seem a little intimidating.  For Twelfth Year magazine, a print and digital magazine featuring the hottest style trends for 2015, we headed to Francesca's in the Promenade Shops at Centerra for advice.  We decided to add a dash of bold, bright color, keeping the sophistication of the all-white look with the addition of some fun pop!

"When dressing with Summer whites and bright, bold colors, pull together classic ladylike looks.  Think sweet, feminine and timeless.  Use accessories and jewelry in pop colors such as pink, cobalt and navy for a youthful feel," advised Amber Burton, Francesca's store manager.

As you can see below, CSP 2016 Senior Model Shawnea Pagat looks refreshing in a white skater dress from Francesca's.  The aqua and gold jewelry adds color and perfectly accents her breezy Summer look.  Instead of bright white shoes, Shawnea is wearing neutral bone pumps that are more versatile and keep the focus on her flirty white dress.

Doesn't everybody love the Boho style?  This casual look inspired by the 1970's is comfortable and stylish - who doesn't love that?  So, of course, the Boho look is included in this year's edition of Twelfth Year magazine, a look book published by Cindy Short Photography.

Twelfth Year is loaded with tips on how to wear the hottest trends of 2015 but for more insight on how to wear the beautiful Boho trend, I went to an expert.  Brooke Mynatt, store manager for the Fort Collins location of BUCKLE in the Foothills Mall, describes the Boho Style as "her absolute favorite trend."

This style, described by Brooke as "carefree and effortless", has been popular for the last several years buoyed by the popularity of music festivals.  For 2015, Boho has taken on a more upscale look making it the perfect style to wear on date night or to a dressy event.  The Boho look is by far the most popular look I see high school seniors bring to the studio for their Senior Portraits.

So how do you put together a great Boho outfit?  Maxi skirts are one of Brooke's favorite staples because it is so easy to wear year round.  "They look great with a fitted tank and a beautiful sandal or heel during the summer and with a cropped sweater, jacket or blazer and boots during chillier days," says Brooke.

Another popular Boho piece is the loose, flowy top.  (I am personally in love with this look.)   Brooke suggests pairing these with a dark wash high-waisted, skinny or straight pair of jeans for a polished, yet easy ensemble.  Want to create your own unique look? Brooke recommends playing with layers and textures to keep your look interesting and unique.

Accessories are a big part of the Boho Style!  You will find fun floppy hats, headbands, head scarves and leather belts as well as floral crowns and abundant metal jewelry.  Brooke recommends playing with different necklaces, mixing long and short styles.  "Choker styles are coming back this year, too!" she says.

Boho Style will still be strong this Fall so I asked Brooke what to expect to see in her store as the weather cools.  "This fall, we will see lots of longer lengths in shirts.  The duster style vest or cardigan is a great option paired with a cropped top or tucked in shirt," says Brooke.

The easiest way to rock your Boho Style, is to head over to the Fort Collins BUCKLE (yes, they are open during construction!) and let Brooke and her amazing team members help you put together the perfect look for you!  This is one of my favorite go to stores when shopping for my son, myself or making a recommendation to a client.  I know that you will be treated like a rockstar!  While you are there, check out some of Brooke's favorite brands when shopping the Boho Style:  Free People, Gimmicks by BKE, Amuse Society, Freebird Boots (my personal fav!), Bed Stu Shoes, Buckle Black Denim and Kan Can Denim.

To inspire you, here are the photos taken of CSP 2016 Senior Model Tara Teslow of for Twelfth Year Volume Three.  Tara with her stunning eyes and gorgeous smile, rocks the Boho Style.  The slip dress in tomato, crochet duster and aqua faux leather wedges are all from BUCKLE.

I am so thrilled to introduce Chandler Lowham from Fossil Ridge High School as our first Style ReDefined Senior!  Now, I am sure you are wondering what Style ReDefined means so, let me explain.  Back in December of 2014, we began to plan for the Spring 2015 release of Vol. 3 of Twelfth Year magazine.  This issue would feature the CSP 2016 Senior Models wearing apparel and accessories from local stores and boutiques that highlight the year's hottest trends.  With the main focus being fashion, we wanted to include another definition of beauty and style.  At Cindy Short Photography, we have always believed that the most beautiful portraits come from connecting with the subject.  It is this connection that allows the camera to capture the person's true spirit, their authentic beauty.

So, my studio manager, Tonya and I went to dinner and brainstormed.  The result is Style ReDefined.  It means that true style is not about fashion and the clothes you wear but the way in which you live your life.  True style is seen in how you interact with your peers and community.  True style is seen in the effect you have on those around you.  A Style ReDefined Senior realizes that he or she can make a difference and create change by encouraging and uplifting the people in his or her school and community.

To select the first Style ReDefined Senior, we collected nominations from the current senior class at local schools.  Hearing peers, family and a teacher/track coach talk about Chandler Lowham made the selection easy.  Chandler embodies all of the characteristics that we were seeking.  In fact, three words were repeatedly used to describe Chandler:  Caring, Compassionate and Selfless.  Chandler is known for supporting and encouraging her peers despite her own struggles.  Read more about her perseverance and extraordinary attitude in Twelfth Year magazine by clicking here.

So, of course we had to do a photo session!  After the professional make up application, Chandler and I headed out to Poudre River Stables in Fort Collins.  This down to earth girl just glows in the light of a barn on one of my favorite spots.  Next, we went to Horsetooth Reservoir for a more dramatic backdrop.  Chandler was a great sport when I asked her to hold a scarf that looks like an American flag.  These photos of Chandler will take your breath away, she is truly beautiful in every way.
