We are so excited to present our very first Fashion Couture Event Wednesday, October 28 from 7 - 9 p.m. at the new location for FASTFRAME next to Doug's Diner in the Front Range Village Shopping Center in Fort Collins!  You are probably wondering what on earth I am talking about...what is a Fashion Couture Event??

The Fashion Couture Event is a gallery art display created with Northern Colorado's top artists in fashion, make up and hair styling and four incredible high school students.  Here are three reasons why you want to be there!

1.  To support these amazing high school students!  These brave students are not professional models but they are members of the 2016 CSP Senior Model team.  They arrived early in the studio - probably the hardest part for a teenager! - and let MAC make up artist Sara Dozier transform them with her gifts of color, contouring and blending.  Then, Aveda hair stylist Ali Sherman, of Trios Aveda Salon and Spa, creatively styled each models locks with curls, braids and some aluminum foil (it was crazy!).  Everything came together when each model slipped into the apparel and accessories styled or created by Colorado State University Fashion Design student Kristi Davis.  By this point, it was apparent that this was no ordinary photo shoot! Totally, out of the box thinking inspired each model's look.  Unlike a Senior Portrait Session where the Senior is the highlight, this was an editorial fashion shoot to communicate what we see in young people in our community.  This generation is going to rock the world and we wanted to show their strength, confidence and beauty.  Photographing the models lasted until close to sunset on a scorching hot day in August and yet, these four teens were patient and positive, bringing the perfect energy to the photo shoot!

So, come and show some love for our models:  Michaela Kriewall and Holly Mack from Rocky Mountain High School and Jesse Goldstone and Hunter Davis from Fossil Ridge High School!

2.  Come on out to support Blake Miller!  Instead of ticket sales, we are collecting donations for a sweet little girl who was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma this Summer at the age of 17 months.  She has bravely endured chemotherapy and surgery and appears to be on her way to a successful recovery!  Her Mom told me that she doesn't even cry when she has her blood drawn - what a strong little girl!  However, if you have battled cancer or know someone who has, you know that the scans and blood tests continue and the medical bills fill the mailbox.  Many of you know that I had my own battle with cancer two years ago.  Throughout my treatment, I remember thinking how much worse it would be to watch my child deal with the painful side effects.  The out of pocket expenses for Blake's treatment will be high.  Helping to offset the family's financial worry allows them to focus on the needs of their little girl.  So, please come by the Fashion Couture Event and consider a donation to offset the medical costs of Blake's treatment.  One hundred percent of donations collected for the Fashion Couture Event will be donated to the Miller Family.   If it is easier to donate online, click here to go to Blake's YouCaring page.

3.  While you are meeting little Blake and enjoying the artwork, munch on cookies from Mary's Mountain Cookies!  Yes, we will have these scrumptious cookies for all of our guests.  If you have ever had one of their cookies, you know this is where you want to head for dessert on Wednesday night!

Here is a Sneak Peek of what you will see and the details again, just in case:

I hope to see you Wednesday!

Joyfully,

Cindy

When you see Hannah Manning's Senior Photos, you will be struck by her natural beauty.  In fact, you might mistake her for a "J. Crew" model.  But there is so much more to this 2014 Rocky Mountain High School Senior. For example, she is a very successful student.  Her academic prowess in high school has prepared her for the next step: majoring in Biochemistry at Colorado State University. Her Dad, a CSU professor, is pretty excited that he will be sharing a campus with his daughter!  In addition, Hannah is a talented violinist and part of Rocky's amazing orchestra.  And, this girl is an athlete playing #2 singles on Rocky's Girls Tennis team.  All of this becomes even more impressive when you realize the medical challenges Hannah has conquered recently.  Hannah had Femoral Anteversion, a genetic condition causing the thigh bone to rotate inward.  This condition was so painful, even walking was difficult.  Two years ago, Hannah underwent surgery to correct this condition.  The surgery included breaking her femur bones mid-thigh, rotating them 25 degrees and inserting rods and screws to hold them in place.  Recovery, which included almost one year of physical therapy, was difficult and painful. But Hannah went from navigating a wheelchair to playing tennis in just 8 months!  Her determination and attitude is inspiring!  The more time I spent with Hannah, the more I realized just what a remarkable young woman I was photographing.  Her joy of life was contagious and super fun to capture.  Congratulations on your Graduation Hannah!

Make Up Artist:  Sara Haiar

While photographing this little one last Summer, I was privileged to witness the many and ever changing moods of the first birthday!  Paula Spencer, author of Parenting Guide to Your Toddler, described these mood swings in Parenting Magazine as "Jekyl and Hyde like".  Spencer goes on to describe the temperment of a toddler and has some good advice for handling the ups and downs, click here if you would like to read it!

This cutie-pie didn't have such scary mood swings!  Although she was bursting with personality and expression, there was nothing but happiness during our portrait session.  I loved the way she proudly walked the boardwalk at a Fort Collins nature area, eager to show off her newly acquired skills.  As she bounded toward me, I couldn't help but cheer for her as she performed this amazing feat!

As she played near the wild sunflowers, one happy, animated expression after another lit up her precious face!  The action is all at high speed when you are one and she quickly went from playful to sweet to silly and to happy in just minutes.  Following all of this activity is the inevitable slow down as little ones get sleepy - it is a lot of work to be so busy!  (This is why 1 Year Sessions are usually just one hour.)

I actually love the quieter photos as much as I love the happy, silly ones.  A sweet kiss for Mom and softer portraits also show the real side of being one.

Child Portrait Sessions are 50% off through March 2014 so you can also save a little scheduling your child's portrait this Winter!  To book your session call 970-682-4206 or email cindy@cindyshortphotography.com

There are so many milestones during the first years of life.  The First Haircut is one that came a lot earlier for my granddaughter than for my own children.  My three children were blonde babies and only had fuzz for the first several years of their lives.  Haircuts were not required until at least age three.  But Cadence has a full head of lovely brown tresses so her Mommy made an appointment at Cool Cuts before her second birthday.

Of course, Mimi had to tag along and bring her camera!

Cadence was a perfect angel sitting in the bright red car and watching Elmo on the screen as her hair was snipped, dried and sprinkled with glitter!

Funny thing, after the haircut, Cadence has more curl!

I recommend documenting all the milestones in your life - whether you use a DSLR or your cell phone.  Your story is precious!

Around our house, Cadence does not lack for toys.  But her favorite toy of all is a cardboard box.  These magnificent boxes arrive to our door several times a week - usually filled with photo prints!  Cadence will sit in the box, push the box across the floor, ride in the box while someone else pushes, carry the box, kick the box and fill the box with treasures. Her favorite box is the perfect size.  Once it was emptied of the air conditioner filters it was originally designed to hold, it became a house.  This box even acquired windows.  Eventually, it gained a sun roof.  Yesterday, I took a break, grabbed my camera and took a few pictures of Cadence and her box.
